What Do I Write In A Swot Analysis ...!!?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I have been given an assignment, where i am the 'chief' of a major bank in Canada (TD Canada Trust); the problem is, i have been asked to analyse the market in order to launch a new line of credit cards!

So, basically i'm clueless as to what to include in my Porters 5 forces, and also in the SWOT analysis. Could anyone help me??

    Dear mez110,

You're bright enough to have found your way to this forum, so let's see if you can go a little farther.

First, you are the one that's going to do the work here, not me. Second, let's see you flexing a little brain power. So, a short search on Google for the term "Porter's 5 for banking" should set you up with at least SOME usable material.

Next, what do YOU think the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats might be for a bank starting a new range of credit cards?

I'm going to presume you use money and credit or debit cards, so, think like a consumer: how do you view credit? How do you value it, use it, abuse it, and leverage its many facets to improve the quality of your life while all the while, clocking up huge sums and fees in monthly interest?

The key here is application: notably, yours—to solve your own problem. You'll get more out of the process that way, and you'll sweat, learn, grow, and figure out that sometimes, finding an answer means taking responsibility and making the effort to help yourself.

If you are studying marketing there really ought to be no excuse for
you not to know or to have learned at least some basic aspects of the process.

This may not be what you expected to read, but it's a damn sight less cutting than it could have been and kinder than others have been on the receiving end of, both from me, and from others.

    Good luck to you.
