Hi, Ihave completed B.E and have 2 years experience in the IMS industry(Backup Administrator).

I am planning to do my MBA in marketing. Please tell me if it will help me.

Also after MBS will I be treated as a fresher and be paid as per the fresher's scale?

Also kindly tell me what MBA in IT and systems is all about.

It's not clear what you want to do. The place to start your exploration is within. Once you understand what the goal is, it's a lot easier to answer the questions you're asking.

So to take these one at a time, your MBA should help you understand the fundamentals of business management, strategy, finance, accounting, marketing, etc. Will that help you? It depends on what you want to do and how much of this you already know.

After you get your MBA, if you want to do something different from what you're doing now, you will be considered a newbie (a "fresher"). If you want to do something closely related to what you're doing now, then you probably won't be considered a newbie.

All of this depends on you and what you want to do with your career. We can't answer this for you. Didn't you consider all of this when you made the decision to get an MBA?

    Dear natalia.vs28

Stop. Breathe. Relax. Now, forget about education for a moment because the only person buying is you.

The MBA in marketing you want to do? What do you WANT this qualification for? As for anyone here being able to tell you if an MBA will help you, no one here can answer that question.

What do YOU want it for and how will you having an MBA help others?

And as to you being "treated as a fresher and be paid as per the fresher's scale" this also depends on you, on your attitude, on where you wind up working, and on what you can do for your employer.

As for what an MBA in IT and systems is all about, look it up! You're the one applying for the MBA, not anyone here. Find schools where the MBA in IT is offered and read their information, then talk to students on those courses and ask them questions.

If you are looking at long term career stability and growth.

Absolutely go for a higher qualification.

The job market is very very tough.

There are plenty of people out there who will tell you "Ah! don't waste your time with the higher degree - look at me, I'm successful and I didn't get an MBA ".

But if you ask those same people; would they have been more successful or would yolu have got there faster if you had an advanced qualification; I'm pretty sure that all of them will have to admit that it would not have hurt them.

Put yourself in the shoes of a recruiter faced with 500 resumes to review. You will be up against at least 200 in that batch who DO have an advanced degree so since the recruiter is only interviewing 10 and hiring one!!! You do the math.

DOn't worry about how much you are going to earn for the first year or two after the degree. Firstly, you will already earn slightly higher than the basic entry level simply because you have the qualification but your oppportunity for rapid growth will be 3 or 4 times faster wiuth the qualification.

    My only advise would be:

Decide specifically what indusry you want to be in.
Choose a college or unbiversity wisely
MBA is great with a specific focus on marketing super if marketing is going to be your chosen career.

If you do the degree, you will always have it and you will never regret it.

If yuou don't do it, you may look back later and say "If only I had, or what if? "

Do it, love it, and reap the rewards later.

    Good luck.

    Hi Gary/Goodman/Matthew,

    Thanks all.

The job I am in is not satisfying, erratic shifts etc...I am BE in computer science and after 2years in IMS going to s/w field is unlikely to work for me as I have lost touch with most of it.So assuming MBA is the only way I can have a career change I am planning to go for it.

So doing MBA is decided but is Marketing a wise decision? or will MBA in IT systems will fetch me brownie points and also will be able to stick to my current industry but in managerial level (no erratic shifts!! relief!).

Which is better in the long run??

Do you have to specialize when you get your MBA? When I was in business grad school you could just get the degree without specializing.

From my perspective, if you're going to get an MBA you should absorb the information in all areas. No need to focus on a particular sub-specialty. But then that was a while ago, and the competition among top business schools wasn't as fierce as it is now.

    Hi,

Yup specialisation is a must which is why I'm pretty apprehensive about things.
