Freelance Ad Translatios

Hello, I've been living in the USA for a while and I was wondering how could I work translating ads. My native language is Portuguese and I've been working with MKT for about 2 years now. Thank you.

    You have 2 basic choices: work/freelance for an agency or start your own business.

    If you're looking to try it on your own, look at businesses that are already (or are hoping to be) in Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, East Timor, Equatorial Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Macau, Mozambique, Portugal, or São Tomé and Príncipe (countries whose official language is Portuguese). Furthermore, take a look at websites for these businesses - do they have a well-translated web site for English? If not, that can be one of your offerings.

    You may be able to translate either direction (English to Portuguese or Portuguese to English), but it is often considered best to translate into your native language. There are some people out there (like me) who would only consider hiring someone who's native language was the language I am looking to translate in to.

    On how to find work, don't forget networking. Keep in touch with the Portuguese speaking and Portuguese-language country cultural communities. It wouldn't be uncommon to find work through them, as people looking to do business with these countries would be at these events (often people who don't speak the language).
