Email List Rentals

Posted by mduench on 50 Points
Hello everyone,

I wanted to get your thoughts on two items:
1. Quality Email list brokers in Europe (those who service Europe and have a healthy list of email contacts in the professional engineering & academic engineering/math space)

2. Your thoughts on list rental in General
I know there is the long-standing debate over list rentals, that marketers should refrain from this practice at all costs due to the fact that the opt-ins likely subscribed to any given list to receive emails from that particular company or organization and are less receptive to your messages. In a scenario where you are entering a new market such as Europe, and your current contact database does not have the breadth or depth of contacts to make sales and marketing activities worthwhile - would you not look at a list rental as a viable solution to this problem?

Our company is now operating directly in Germany which is a new market for us. I have worked with list brokers in the past in this market but haven't been satisfied with the results from campaigns deployed here. Any suggestions on list brokers and e-marketing strategies to reach the audience within a new market are greatly appreciated.

In Polen, which boards with Germany, quite popular is KOMPASS, that operates internationally. https://www.kompass.com/

    You could also try
    https://www.azdirect.com.ph/v6/
    and
    https://www.schober-international.de/

Although I don't recommend them, they are quite big and experienced companies.

    I hope this helps.

I have also heard of Kompass as a list broker in Europe, but haven’t used them personally. However, I am always hesitant to use a cold email list. Conversion rates are too low while the dangers of being considered a spammer are too high.

How about looking for strategic partners to help introduce you to your target market? One good e-marketing strategy is to try to get on another company’s list and offer your goods to their list. In exchange you can offer space on your own opt-in list or an affiliate commission. Even better would be to provide something of value to their client list. For example, a company like yours, who focuses on engineering software, might be able to offer a series of articles tips for effective and efficient engineering. Then offer these articles to an engineering industry newsletter. Some publications will charge you for the privilege of being published in their newsletters, but many do not. Plus, this kind of strategy establishes your company as a thought leader.

Now, the trick is to create incentives for the readers to take the next step and go to your site. One way to do this is to make the articles general and offer more in-depth reports based on the articles for download from your website (for people who sign up). If you take this approach, I recommend using a good translation service (one who triangulates the translation). Although most Germans learn English in school and are quite fluent, people are generally more comfortable reading their own language. It will go a long way in building your relationship with your target audience.

    Hi,
You ask what are some of our opinions on using email rental lists...well I would have to say stay away from them. Really. They're not as good a source as you might think. Not to mention, the addresses may be correct, they may very well have interests in what you might be offering whether product or service, but at the end of the day if they did not agree and approve to share their email address with you they're just as good as not having their address to begin with! And secondly what you don't want is to be labeled a Spammer!

The risks you open yourself with is becoming BLACKLISTED which no one wants from an emarketing stand point. You (your company) don't want to be known with ISP's (internet service providers) as SPAM experts. Its just not worth it.

Some recommendations I would like to offer to you
    would be to consider the following;
    1. Participate in any upcoming trade/industry shows or venues. Which can allow you to meet others and collect business cards or simply ask them to "Join your email list for xyz"
    2. Who in the industry can you affiliate with to not step on each others toes or compete but compliment one another where what you offer makes it a good fit. This will allow you to also build a prospect list of some sort...
    3. If you can't afford to participate in a show or venue as an exhibitor perhaps participate as a participant and handout info (very discreetly of course) and business cards to prospects or those exhibitors that could affiliate with your services somehow...

These are the types of areas I'd consider to try and build a prospect list to ultimately becoming a client list.
There is certainly many other ways to consider depending on how much time you have and what your marketing plans and goals are.
If I could be any further help feel free to send me an email or visit this site of one of the emarketing leaders in the industry. https://www.constantcontact.com/index.jsp?pn=marketingplussolutions
