Job Profiles For Marketing (mba) Students

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Dear Sir,
I am ready to join a well-reputed B-School in India for a one-year MBA course, in about a week from now.
I have an engineering background and 3 years of experience of working in an IT company. I am interested to choose Marketing as the specialization, but I am not sure about the job profiles offered in the various industries for Marketing (MBA) students. Can you please throw some light on this? I would like to work on my profile from Day 1 of MBA so that it is easier for me during placements.
Best Regards,
Tanya

What do you want to do post-graduation, Tanya? What companies/industries/locations interest you? Why? Focus your learning and profile on targeting this (these) companies. If you haven't already, start doing informational interviews with people in these organizations to find out what they value, what they look for in new hires, etc.

You are looking through the wrong end of the telescope. Instead of looking for what kind of jobs are out there for marketing students, you should be thinking of the value you can bring to an employer based on your unique set of skills, interests and experience. Then find the company whose greatest need is precisely what you bring to the party.

Marketing is a very broad category, and has a similarly broad category of career tracks. Many people who go for MBAs seem to look for positions in marketing/product/brand management or marketing research.
