Party Challenge!

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am starting a new business with handmade, custom party invitations, banners, favor tags, thank you notes, cupcake toppers and labels. However, every time I come up with a name it is already used. Do you have any suggestions? I was toying with the idea of using my family's initials: JEM, but again I am stumped. I love the idea of making up a word to describe what I do: example a baker used Sweetopia, but I am having trouble with this brain storm. Does anyone have an pliable suggestions? I would also like the name to be search engine worthy because this business will be on-line. I would like this name to be easily remembered and not too difficult to spell.

You haven't indicated where you're trying to register this name, so it's really hard to know what names may be available there.

The family initials don't really convey much to a prospect. I'd stay away from that strand of the brainstorm.

Have you thought of using your name, e.g. Molly Nutmeg? Easy to say and spell, fairly unique (Google it) and sounds like a children's storybook character.

    What's your Unique Selling Point?

Okay, I am totally new to this and have NO marketing/business background. I am actually a nurse, so please don't laugh, but what do you mean 'where you're trying to register this name'? I am just trying to come up with a name before I register it and I am not even sure where you would register it.

As for the name idea - I have thought of it using Missy Molly or my children's names Jack & Eilee but the names still do not convey what I am trying to sell. Also, the party prints will not just be for birthdays, but showers, weddings, save the date, announcements.

Does anyone else have any ideas for a name/tag-line?

NovaHammer - did you even listen to that link you suggested? I do know how to research what I am doing, but I was trying to start with a company name to try promoting these products with family and friends.

I am not an idiot. I do have a masters. I am just having trouble brainstorming a name. (I confessed my lack of knowledge in this area to understand your question. Not to be belittled by your opinion.

I would like to suggest the following names:

    1. Parties Unlimited
    2. All About Parties
    3. Party Fun
    4. Party Essentials (I like this the most. The name says it all.)

Hope you like them! They are easy to remember. They can be pronounced easily. It will be an advantage online because the names already connotes some meaning. It already suggests the kind of service or product you are offering.

    Hi Molly,

After reading through some of the responses i can certainly understand what you are looking for, some brainstorming ideas for a name, not a consultation on what your plan is in moving forward.

I have a few ideas for you and i will disagree with a few of the things that people have offered you so far. I really like the JEM idea, although it might be more useful for you to use Jem instead, i do agree that initials or acronyms can be a little ambiguous.

I would recommend, however, that you combine Jem with another word. How about "Party Jems" then you can use a little diamond or something when designing your logo. think about it...

You could also try "Party Jewel's", "Party treasure's" or "Party Accents". There are so many ways you can take this, "The Little Details" with a tag line 'for the finest party essentials' or "Guest perceptions" with the tag line 'your invitation is your first impression...' or "A Touch of Class" with a tag line 'Party invitations, hand made, with style' You can really use a combination of any of the names and tag lines above.

When it comes to your website I would suggest that you look into "search engine optimization" when you are designing. This is basically how you design your website for searchability. The name is what you make it Molly, with some good online marketing and a passion for what you are doing, you will do great. My last piece of advise might be to stay away from using your own name, it might be attributed to a younger demographic, hope that helps. Happy naming....
