Positioning A "by The Sea" Gift Shop

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
We are opening an elegant gift shop by the sea, with the name By the Sea. It is a small retail shop located on the same premises as an upscale/casual oceanfront restaurant, a functions center and a music hall. The shop will carry classy gifts -- many with a sea/beach theme, anything from one-of-a-kind tote bags, pottery, seaglass, home items (small cheese boards, bottle openers, ornaments, napkin holders, handpainted beach signs, candles/candle holders, etc.), aromatherapy items, a small selection of children's gifts and books that are beach-themed, very limited logo or private label items It will also carry sundries for the event goers to have the convenience of certain items offered on-site. And it will double as the box office for the music hall. We want to convey what the shop carries -- fabulous, select finds for home, etc. without communicating this is lower end souvenir or chachki stuff. Any suggestions to pay off the name and product line in the tagline/line beneath the logo and on the windows/signage to communciate what you will find in "By the Sea," would be great. Time is of the essence. Thanks!

What about using the name of your town or region, or the body of water, in your tagline? So it could be:

    Nantucket [or wherever] Treasures

You don't want to repeat the word "sea" in the tagline since it's in your name already. And "gifts" is rather mundane compared to "treasures." The latter suggests upscale, not trashy.

I agree the tagline or subhead under the name needs to say gifts in some way or they are not going to know what kind of store we are. We had actually played with "treasures and trinkets" but I think it sounds too low end, and you still don't really know what kind of shop it is. I feel like we need to be pretty straight forward with a little bit of "panache" or creative adjectives to modify the word gifts or finds in the payoff line beneath the name. What do you think of:
    unique finds
    elegant finds
unique finds / home * kids * him & her
unique gifts / home * kids * him & her
    gifts & good things
    gifts to treasure
    unique gifts & treasures
simple pleasures * gifts to treasure
    panache * presents * pleasures

Some are too long...just playing...any thoughts on the above. It's really combining several of people's ideas...
