Good Summer Promo

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Ok so we are a medium sized business that sells wholesale shipping supplies (boxes, stretch wrap, tape). All of our sales are B2B to buyers for large corporations. We have been spinning our wheels endlessly about a summer promo that is not super predictable but still appropriate. We usually do a give away for new business orders like a best buy gift card, restaurant gift card, or camera- none of which have been super successful....... so that's where you experts come in...... please help! Oh and this will be posted on our website only because our budget is painfully small.

Thanks!

One of the most difficult problems that most of us can most likely relate to is finding ways to make promotions exciting and beneficial. I can tell you that when you're dealing with large corporations the gift card and camera type options are not going to be very successful ever. Think about your market, you may be dealing with one or two people but like most corporations they will probably have to get approvals from higher up. While if you were dealing with a small business or individuals those types of items would be much more beneficial to them. Most times it will come down to the bottom line and yes unfortunately, pricing. Corporations don't need gift cards or cameras, you're better off going with a product incentive. Use what you've already got, your products! Getting some products for free, a % discount on orders, etc. is much more beneficial to corporations. Make sure though it's worth their notice, it needs to run for at least a month. You can run the promotions many different types of ways. What items are your sales lagging way behind? Or what items should they buy together, if they're purchasing shipping boxes then they definitely need to be purchasing tape. And as for advertising, if you're only posting on your website, make sure that you send an e-mail blast out about it as well. Also, design some flyer's yourself and include them with the receipts of all purchases made. If no one at your company can deal with the design, use people you know. More than likely someone knows a creative person, or even a high school student who can handle designing a flyer for you.
Good Luck and I hope some of this information helped!

Thanks for both of these....your right that a promotion may not be the most effective use of dollars it's just what had been traditionally done. I like free overnight shipping but the problem with that is that shipping at times can be in the hundreds of dollars.
