Need Urgent Help With Marketing Dissertation!

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I'm having problems formulating my final dissertation question and objectives. Can anyone give me some help in this?

So far I've narrowed it down to studying how far can comedic violence remain effective in viral advertising. I can't think of what to write for my objectives. Should I not bother with comedic part and just look at violence in general? Is there a particular industry I should look at instead of simply viral ads?

There's only one dissertation I found on this topic on the net and it looks at the impact of comedic violence in viral advertising. I'm wanting to take it a step further, and find out the limits of comedic violence used in viral ads before it becomes ineffective.

My supervisor doesn't like my topic but won't say why. There's not a lot of information that I managed to find on this as well so I'm not sure if my research topic is worth doing.

Can someone offer some insight? How can I adjust my question?

What is the topic of the dissertation?

I must say that I work in an advertising agency and we always tell our clients that adding emotions to the ad and finding the right insight always helps it become more recognizable. Moreover it helps to cut media budgets and still break through the clutter.

Maybe I got your question wrong? If you could specify a bit, maybe I can give you a hand on this

Are you hoping to leverage your dissertation for a future job? If so, focus on the business area you're most interested in. Alternatively, focus on ROI of viral advertising: how much was spent, how many viewers (and from where), and the ROI of the effort. You could specialize in "comedic violence" as a specific example, but you'll likely find that the definition of "comedy" and "violence" are in the eyes of the viewer.
