Market Projections

Hi,

I am now doing a project about introducing new services to school & I am stuck at market description, projections and segment. Anyone can help me?? It will be best if there is an example for me to refer to, thank u!

    If you're stuck, there's not much we can do. "Market description" seems pretty straightforward. What is the market you plan to serve? Where is it? Who is it? Who are the current suppliers to that market? How frequently do people purchase products in that market? Etc.

    Similarly, "segment" would be something you can define pretty easily. Surely you don't plan to serve everyone in the whole world. Define the segment of the market that you will try to address. Is it elementary schools in Northern China? Is it colleges in Australia? Is it all elementary and secondary schools in Geneva?

    As for projections, you might think about how many purchases a single school makes in a year and the average amount spent per purchase. Then multiply those by the number of schools in your target segment and your target market share. That will give you the projection.

    So does that mean I am do some calculation for the projections? something like break even point??

    Yes, you will need to do some calculations for the projections. Not sure this is the place to deal with your breakeven point. This is simply a projection of how much revenue you can expect if you reach your target share level (and other objectives). It may or may not be greater than your breakeven point.

    Also, projections are usually *sales* projections, while breakeven calculations usually deal with profit. At some point you will want to apply some margin assumptions to your sales projections to come up with projected profit, and that's the time to deal with breakeven.
