E-mail Newsletters

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
Hi, I run a small marketing company and want to be able to help my clients by offering to help them create and deliver e-mail newsletters. I am fully capable of providing the content as well the layout but know nothing about the costs involved with, and actual mechanics of delivering an e-mail newsletter.

I assume there are firms that do this but I would need to be able to provide this to clients seamlessly. can anyone give me some actual ideas of costs of working with these firms (yea yea I know...it will depend on many factors but I need a ballpark). Also, anything else that I would need to know or watch out for. Thanks.

If you don't want your clients to know that you're using another company, you'll need a private-label solution. Otherwise, your clients will know that they're not "drinking from the well" and may be inclined to go direct to the source.

Having said that, we are open about the facts that we use a third-party company for deployment, explaining to them that we're a marketing company, not a technology company. Moreover, we can offer the solution to them for one-third of what they would pay if they went direct. We pay a minimum of $2,000 per month for this solution.

If your clients are small, you might want to check out Bronto's agency solution. They will private-label a solution for you for very cheap, and I think their solution is not bad for newsletters as long as the client does not have a lot of data requirements.

    Good luck.

    Hi Gary2,

Check out Constant Contact at www.constantcontact.com

Seemless - yes, as much as it can be.

Need to know or watch out for: You will have a lot of bouncebacks on the initial sends. It will take some time to get the lists cleaned out. This is because there is a +-30% churn rate a year in email addresses.

The greater degree of permission and opt-in you have, the greater your open and clickthroughs will be.

It will take more of your time than you expect along the entire project timeline to implement, measure and manage your customers' campaigns.

    Constant Contact Costs:

0-50 Subscribers or 60 days (free trial) $0.00
    51-500: $15.00
    501-2,500: $30.00
    2,501-5,000: $50.00
    5,001-10,000: $75.00
    10,001-25,000: $150.00
    25,001-50,000 $250.00

Constant Contact should do be able to do just about anything you need to do. They can't provide dynamic content, but I suspect your customers don't need that right now, and it can be quite expensive and is hard to justify unless the ROI is there.

Is it really that inexpensive to do? Constant contact is free for under 50 emails? and only $50 for 5000. I think both constant contact and Bronto had agency options that I looked at which seemed like a pretty good deal but is there a catch? Has anyone had experience using either of those two as an agency for clients.

you guys have been really helpful.
