If I were thinking of beginning my career in July 2011 in traditional Brand Management, I'd get an MBA from the most prestigious school that would accept me (think Stamford, Wharton, Harvard, etc.). And I'd do it on a full-time basis right away.

Then, once I'm well grounded in business generally (i.e., not just marketing), I'd start at the top of the list with P&G, J&J, Kraft, PepsiCo, General Mills, etc. Those companies tend to prefer folks with MBAs from top schools (for whatever reason).

That's not to say these companies are going to give you the best experience, or that the top MBA schools will give you the best education. It's just the way the system works today if your goal is to create the best credential for yourself in traditional brand management.

Just my $0.02 worth. (I'm assuming you're in the US.)
