Every company defines responsibilities differently. Generally speaking, though, the Marketing Manager is responsible for the entire marketing mix: positioning, pricing, product, promotion, advertising, packaging, merchandising, publicity, and perhaps Sales/Distribution and customer service.

MARCOM falls under that Marketing Mix "umbrella," usually in the areas of advertising, packaging, publicity, and perhaps promotion. MARCOM is a subset of Marketing.

But then some companies define the Marketing Manager position very narrowly, and they really mean something like "Sales support." So in order to understand the difference, you have to know the starting point.

If this is really important for you, start with the list of marketing mix elements and see who is responsible for each one. And also differentiate between strategy and implementation. Who does what?

    I agree with above.

First and foremost, every company defines positions how they want, so there is a very large variation.

But in general, marketing managers control all marketing, where marcom is more involved with the spefics of putting together the marketing programs. Marcom manager usually report to marketing managers. And in companies large enough to have a few people in marcom, along with a few marketing managers, it is common for the marcom folks to not be experts on the product lines, but instead just be experts in creating marketing programs.

The Marcom Manager's responsibilities are a subset of those of a Marketing Manager's.
Marcom manager - primarily focuses on communication strategy and execution w.r.t. internal and external audience.
Marketing Manager - handles right from planning strategy, research to market management (to expand or to penetrate or to pull out, etc).
