Do Digital Cv's Work?

Posted by rum68br on 250 Points
I have made a decision that I want to leave my current job. The problem is the current jobs market. I started my search in Jan with new formatted cv. I have a success rate of 50%. But in the interview they have alway found someone who has more experience. Now I have the skills and the knowledge so I was wondering what extra steps I could take to showcase my skills.

My ideas so far include a website (which I can do using flash etc) and building an digital cv, but everyone I have asked says it is over the top. I do not really want to use Facebook or Linkedin (as current employers do not know of wish to leave). Are these suggestions any good?

Volunteer with another company to build experience that your interviewers may find lacking. If you haven't already, talk to the interviewers to find out what specific skills do they need that you don't have, and get them. The purpose of a better website, CV, etc. are really to get the interview. You got the interview. You need more "steak" and not more "sizzle" in your marketing of yourself.

Your strategy may be wrong. Instead of trying to get more interviews, how about figuring out which company has a critical need for what you do best. Then research that company and go to them prepared to share what you've learned in the research and explain why you're so right for them.

It's more effort than just distributing resumes, but it's less work in total because the chances that you'll get the job are so much greater.

If you channel all your efforts into finding and researching the one company that's right for you, the payoff will be greater. And all you need is one perfect job.
