How To Segment An E-mail List With Good Results

Posted by tech_marketer on 350 Points
any suggestions on how to segment an email list and make sure a high response rate?

we can give out a survey to find people's interest, but that's only so effective if only .5% of the people fill it out. Any ideas on how to segment a list with, say, 50,000 subscribers, e.g.,

1. just 1 question?
2. make sure they can fill it out in the body of the email (I don't even know if that's possible)
3. have to give something away?

Thanks in advance

Why not segment on the landing page? If your list is one you purchased or rented, there is probably no way to segment the list on anything but the spelling of the name(s). (Alphabetizing is a kind of segmentation, right?)

What kind of segmentation do you want?

We have done the single question survey. Make sure that is the subject line. It worked really well.

You CAN do it in the body of the message but you'll be reading a lot of email.

Give away: do 1/2 with the give away and 1/2 without it. That's why we talk about test; test; test.

    Hi Tech_Marketer,

this is major problem of most of the marketers in this world. Having a database is not an issue. In my personal account i have more then 5K emails. Some of are HR consultants, business contents, my personal contacts and even some are unknown.

Most of the email selling companies collect data from such sources.

I prpose you to maintain two level of marketing campaigns. run a campain to your unfiltered database. May be as suggested by one of the member, one question survey, asking for specific question. yo0u need to provoke the interest in them to know more about what services you provide. make sure you propose to distribute quality information. And finally make then join your mailing list.

this is where you will create your list of email who really wants to receive informaiton from you. This is the list which will give you better conversion rate.

    Hope this will help you..
