Evidence of excellent judgment and initiative, strong character -- perseverance, grit, etc.

Also: don't show that you're competent - show evidence of leadership and "new" thinking.

First, what position you want. And then a brief description of your background and how it makes you appropriate for that position.

"I am looking for a position in marketing management for a technology firm. I have xx years experience in marketing management at xx company/ies. I also have a BS in marketing form xx university."

If you are open to a different positions, modify the elevator speech to match what you would be interested in from the company you are talking to. Pitch should be as specific as you can be. A broad pitch leaving you open to many positions will generally get you none.

Forget the elevaotor "pitch" pitching is for baseball

Instead just ask, what are you looking for. Why do people fail. Obviously they are at a job fair because those they hired failed. Make it personal!
