Which Mba Program For Brand Management

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am looking to career switch into brand management for a CPG company and will be enrolling in an MBA program in the fall to facilitate this shift. I have been accepted to UCLA Anderson with a full-ride scholarship and to Northwestern Kellogg. I know Kellogg is arguably the best school in the world to study marketing, but how big of a difference will a degree from Kellogg make over a degree from Anderson?

A little about my background: I have a MA in social psychology from a top program where my research focused on the influence of social norms on consumer behavior. For the past 2+ years I have worked in venture capital in an associate role where my primary resposibility is helping our portfolio companies develop and execute on their positioning and go-to-market strategies.

IMHO not that much. Better to select the school you feel will be the most satisfying and enjoyable to you personally.

    Best of luck,

I could argue either side of this one.

On one hand, having an MBA from any one of the top-tier schools should give you the know-how and credentials you need. From that perspective, the difference won't be very important.

On the other hand, if the company you really want to work for is connected to Kellogg in some way and regularly recruits there, they'll probably over-value the degree from Northwestern, and that will give you a decided edge over a candidate with an MBA from UCLA. Alumni tend to hire from their alma maters, especially when they're successful within the company (and thus in a position to influence future hiring decisions).

I suspect that very few of the top CPG companies would discount an MBA from Kellogg.
