Know-How Exchange : Career/Training

I've come to the realization that not owning a smartphone may be hurting my career growth (I don't know, I like a real keyboard, watching real videos, uploading real photos... and in my personal life I feel some need to disconnect and unplug.) Still, I do want to be more familiar with the Mobile user experience from the user standpoint.

Should I just get an iphone since that's what everyone has? Are they really the best? Should I get lots of GB just because? How do I choose a carrier and data plan?
