Advertising, Graphic Design & Event Business?

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I really want to work with advertising, graphic design and events. Is there any studies specialized for this? I would like to work in an advertisingfirm or likely, because I love thinking out new ideas for a product, label etc to increase sales or just make people aware of their existence. I study media and communication in high school now, in Norway, but I am thinking about studying in the US or London next semester. 1. what should I study; graphic design, advertising communication or anything else? 2. What schools can I go to? I'd love to study in NY. 3. Is there any possibility to get a job in a firm in NY after a masters degree? 4. Is it hard to get a work visa? 4. Whats the upsides of studying in NY?

As possibly the only graphic designer to contribute to this forum on a regular basis (please, someone, correct me if I'm wrong), my best advice to you right now is this:

Stop. Take a breath of air. Think.

If you're still in high school it's unlikely you'll be studying in London next semester. I'm guessing that you're 17 or 18. To get into any design school overseas you'll need to be supremely talented or amazingly lucky. Or both. Your question is all over the map so I'm guessing that while you're obviously enthusiastic about the future (which is good), you're not yet focused on a goal.

Your first stop is the Norwegian School of Creative Studies. Here's a link https://www.norgeskreativefagskole.no/ The school has bases in Oslo, Stavanger, Bergen, and Trondheim. You might want to talk to fellow students. To do this, use social media:

To work in advertising, or in graphic design, or in events you're looking at three distinct areas of study and it's unlikely that any one single course will give you a grounding in all three areas at the same time.

What would you study? That's up to you.

What schools can you go to? Again, that's up to you. But to begin with, you might want to remain closer to home.

As for a possibility of getting a job in a firm in NY after a masters degree, first, you'll need a main degree, then you'll think about a masters. All told you're looking at not working as a designer ANYWHERE until at least 2016.

Slow down, see what's out there, and then focus on possibilities. Good luck to you.
