A Student Who Wants To Become The Best!

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I'm currently in a senior in high school and I'm going to be off in college soon.

My question is: What are some major things that I should learn/understand when I'm in college to attain either a B.S or MBA in Business Admin.?

My background as a person: I am largely a visionary and I tend to do a lot of research on things that people are interested in. At the moment, I really consider the gaming industry as focus point (although I would market anything that i'm expected to market). Right now I have multiple goals when deciding what games to market and how to market them.

Things I look at when choosing the game
(There are many more factors but too many to list)

1. What about this games makes it stand out?
2. Is there key aspects to the story or theme?
3. how is the game play?
4. what is the replay-ability level?
5. who would want to play this game (is there a demand?)
6. when is the appropriate time to promote such a game?
7. where is the attainable crowd likely to be (this is where i'm going to focus my marketing the most)

This is how I choose to go about marketing the game
(There are many more factors but too many to list)

1. What does this game have over competing games?
2. What is the weakness of competitors?
3. If there are no competitors, what does this game do better than the games other people would rather play?
4. Who does this game appeal to most?
5. Where can I make a mark and make the game stand out?
6. When is the right time to promote the game?
- Check the release dates of other games
- Check popularity of the game's beta
- Read forums of the game or competing games to know what the competition is or what makes the game good or bad
7. Why should people play this game?
8. What will they experience when playing this game?

There are a lot of things that go through my mind and for some reason it tends to come naturally without even thinking about it. I love doing these things and on top of that, I love being able to talk to people both people from the company (or people related to the company like forum masters) and the people who would ultimately be the customer. I like to know what people think about something and how or what it was to make them feel what they feel about that something. There is so much more about me that I feel would make me a marketer, largely too much to explain here.

I want to be one of the best marketers in whatever industry I go into and I want to make my mark! I crave the knowledge of the professionals in the marketing industry and I would deeply appreciate any knowledge that someone could give to me to further expand my knowledge!

Thanks and regards, Brandon Nicholas Lew

    Dear Brandon,

I've been answering student questions on this forum for three years. In that time there have been five or six that have stood out. One of those questions is yours.

Of your two lists, consider ditching the 2nd point in the second list. You'll then have seven points in each on which to pin any approach to marketing—seven GREAT points. Seven key questions that no other students will be asking.

You want to be one of the best marketers in whatever industry you go into? You're already there. You need little by way of additional knowledge. You are already way, WAY ahead of the pack.

Please contact me off forum and I'll be happy to pass on a few suggestions for approaches you might want to consider, and for a few marketing people you might want to model yourself on to set yourself up in the game niche.

To get in touch, just click on my name above and you'll find my e-mail address.

P.S. This question ought to stand as an example to EVERY STUDENT that comes to this forum because THIS attitude is what will make a great marketer.
