Generating Buzz In A New Channel

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
We are opening a new channel in the for-profit education space. Because this is a new initiative, we have no budget to support the channel. I am looking for ways to creatively generate leads/buzz to sell our products and services. We initiated a study to get schools interested in helping us develop a product that will be tailored to their needs, but we are getting very little traction. We purchased a list and held 6 webinars, but still have had very little interest. Any other suggestions on what we could do to get the word out?

Somewhere, deep underground, a klaxon is blaring
and a series of red lights are flashing.

The klaxon is accompanied by a soothing voice telling anyone that will listen "Attention! Attention! Red alert! Red alert! The primary self destruct sequence has been enabled. This is not a drill. Repeat: this is not a drill. All personnel are advised to proceed to their assigned escape pod and prepare to abandon ship."

    Here's why:

You appear to have no product and no market to sell it to. From a business investment point of view, this is not a situation you want to out yourself in. Ever.

All the creativity in the world won't help you sell something that no one wants to buy.

The results of the study you initiated about getting schools interested in helping you develop a product that will be tailored to their needs ought to have told you something: when survey results generate very little traction you're either asking the wrong questions OR, you're developing the wrong product for the wrong market.

No matter how much YOU think it's a good product or service, the results from the list you purchased a list and the half dozen webinars you've held you've held ought to be SCREAMING at you.

My best advice is to go back to square zero and begin again. Sinking more effort into this might be counterproductive. To get the word out you need to first look at getting the word IN, meaning, you might want to spend more time finding a need and offering a solution.

Having no real clue in your offering - whatever it may be - make The Call To Action from your viewers/readers eyes.

Especially the educational segment (they also have no budget) really needs to have a direct benefit...no long time lines...no experiments.

In that market silo, you will need to find and then develop
evangelists for your product, they inturn (may or maynot) will begin the slug to WOM

Without a budget, you need to build your client base, one client at a time. Perhaps offer the first couple of clients to become "beta testers" (for free, or drastically reduced price) with the provision that you'll be crafting white papers from your work with them. From these, consider a webinar to share their successes and some best practices that are new to your offering.

You broaden your reach and visibility by offering free
use to socially respected users. You ask their reviews.

You then use the reviews as social proof from a respected organization in your follow up efforts to other users-to whom you offer limited time trials.

The plan here is to build credibility. You then use the credibility and authority to leverage sales. But before you do this you must offer massive value in which you take on all the risk.

Maybe your marketing efforts are not enough. Create a facebook page to get the word out. Twitter and other social media are all free portals to help you advertise your page. Ask friends and people you know to campaign for you. Find a niche you can cater to, for the meantime and focus on them. Make sure they are pleased with your products and ask them o tell their friends about you.

You can also start an SEO campaign. Since you do not have budget, you have to do everything by yourself. Hope these help.

Since you are new to the market with no budget, I would suggest that you ditch the online campaign and use the old fashion telephone. Since you have the research on who would be interested in your product, search for them online then call.

Create a value proposition on what it will do for them, then use the webinar as a demo tool which would be the "appointment" ie. next step to show them the value.

I would suggest that you offer a "Free" white page report or something to spark the interest of your target audience. Its amazing what type of response you will get when you offer something "Free" I also would suggest e-mail marketing Act-on is a great program that will help you get the word out on your offering.
