Describing Pr

Posted by BrandWarrior on 125 Points
How would you describe PR's roll in Marketing Communications to a fellow manager who has no communications background and doesn't fully understand what PR is or does?

I have fellow colleague who has just came from her first four years in market research and is now in Marketing Communication. With her market research mindset, of black and white categories, I am struggling to best describe PR to her and it roll in the Marketing Communication strategy.

Any descriptions you can provide would be appreciated.

Thank you!

PR (as in public relations) is the thing you pray for. It's the good karma, the best publicity, and the feel good factor that every business needs to show its clients and customers the better side of doing business.

When something goes wrong—publicly—it's the role of PR to fix things so that the company AND the other party both come out the other end smiling ... or, at the least, that they come out the other end looking reasonably good.
