How Do I Market And Expand My Fashion Line?

Posted by Anonymous on 125 Points
I have created a new urban fashion line with my friend. We have designed several concepts and our first order has been placed. We target 14-22 year old men who wear urban clothing. How do I reach a wider audience and maximise profits despite having a target market with a fairly low disposable income.

Where? How do you distribute your clothing line? How does your target audience find you? Are you strictly an e-tail business?

When you say you want to reach a "wider audience," what do you mean? Do you want to serve women too? Or older/younger men? Or wider geography? Or more retailers in your current geography?

Obviously our answers will depend on your responses to these questions.

mgoodman asked the right questions - if you know anything about your market, if it is 'hot' and in tune; tells their story - lower income levels are not the problem to worry about.

    Hi taran,

The questions asked by mgoodman, are very important as a part of product development strategy. As you have mentioned that you have designed clothing range for man aged between 14-22. so this is your target group. Now in this, you are struggling whom to sell maximum with greater profit.

This set of questions needs to be analyzed before making a product, any ways, now you figure out who in your target group will buy. Means in your target segment, do further segmentation like A, B, C etc. This grouping needs to be done on various buying decision and behavioral parameters of your target customers like, buying power, quality preference, design uniqueness, affordability, profitability etc etc etc. Now once you do this exercise, find out who has major share, who will pay you the maximum profit. High sales does not means, high profit. Once you are done with this exercise, now its time to make a value preposition (it may be price, design or both at affordable price etc.) and reach out to your target audience.

Reaching out to your customers is a part of communication strategy.

Hope this will help you. Feel free to ask further queries.

as far as maximizing profits, how are you producing your shirts? i would suggest looking into plastisol transfers and investing in a heat press if you haven't already. anyway....

your web site needs to be tight and link up with your social media. there are a ton of great sites to get ideas from to use. maybe a bigcartel site would work well for you, or some other template. i'd stay away from etsy and ebay. if you can't take good pics, get someone that can. nothing ruins a site for me faster than bad, cheezy, generic pics with friends for models. often, urban brands have a blog, too.
