How To Go From Pr To Marketing Management?

Currently I am a 25 year old Account Associate at an international B2B agency in the UK, doing media relations and content development (2 years of experience). My professional background focuses on Journalism, Communications and PR. I am starting to find bare PR quite boring and I love the little bits of marketing that I get my hands on. Moreover, my current agency has a lot of glass ceilings that are not allowing me progress to a managing position as fast as I would like.

My dilemma now is if I should further my education in Marketing with either a masters or the CIM Professional Certificate in Marketing... or just try to jump on the marketing wagon, although that would probably make start from an entry-level position.

Would it be worth taking the CIM Professional Certificate now and then do an MBA when I have enough managerial experience? Would this CIM certificate help me switch from PR to Marketing? I already have a BA and I am also wondering if the CIM would the appropriate certification to take.

I do not know anyone in the Marketing sphere in the UK and any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Ok, and do you think that the CIM Professional Certificate would the right certification given my level of experience? And which are the most prestigious course centers/schools? I had a look online and there are lot of distance courses and course centers and I did not know even where to begin. I would have to do a part-time course over a year or so. Thanks!

    No, my company does not have a marketing department, as it is mostly focused on PR, although we do little marketing bits once in a while, which I enjoy. So I have started applying to more marketing related roles and they question on what marketing experience I have always comes up... That's why I was thinking that if at least I had a professional certificate, it would prove that I am actually very interested in marketing and it is not just a second best option after trying public relations. Your answers are very helpful though! Thanks!
