My wife and I have started a candle and bakery company and we are trying to come up with a company slogan. The name of the business is The Crafty Cottage, LLC. We would like to get this done as soon as possible. Thank you.

You have come to the right place. We can definitely deliver the slogan you want. A few questions first:

    1. Who is in your primary target audience? Where do these folks live? Are they tourists or locals? Are they online or buying at bricks-and-mortar shops? Are there special occasions when they buy candles and baked goods, or are these everyday items? What else can you tell us about your target audience? Age? Gender? Income? Attitudes toward candles? Etc.

    2. What is it you'd like them to know about your shop? What are you trying to communicate about The Crafty Cottage LLC? Why should they buy stuff from you? How will they benefit from your products?

    3. Why do you need a motto, and why "as soon as possible?" What do you want the motto to do for you, and why the hurry? How will you evaluate our suggestions, and what criteria will you use to pick a winner?

    4. Finally, do you have a marketing plan? Can you share some of the details with us? How will your target audience find out you exist? Where/when will they even see/read/hear your slogan?

Just a note: If the slogan is really important for you, you probably ought to hire a marketing expert who has been through this drill many times before. There are several such professionals who participate in this forum. Just check their profiles. Or post a project in the "Hire an Expert" section of this website. (See the column at the right side of this page.)

The advantage is not just that you'll get a slogan that accomplishes your objective, but you will also get it in a predefined timeframe. The responses on this forum may or may not get you what you want with the speed you expect.

I would back up Mr Goodman's advice by asking why it is so necessary to have it as soon as possible.

Haste is the enemy of the marketer. There are things that take time, and marketing is one of the more important ones to be patient about. Indeed, my client acquisition is designed expressly to avoid people who want a quick fix (don't worry, moderators, all my stuff is in Dutch - all the rest is merely for info).

To be quite honest, a good explanation as to why it is necessary to be hasty would be as good a start as any.

As mgoodman has alluded to with his question of "Are there special occasions when they buy candles and baked goods ... ". Yes, there are such occasions as in "put another candle on the birthday cake". Of course, this is a very thin marketing niche, but perhaps thick enough for a business to be profitable. Or maybe to a kick start the launching of your brand.

Here's a question, if your candle and bakery brand is not about birthday cake & candle packages, what could it be about?
