Why are you tackling emails from this point of view? Surely a well aimed PPC campaign would bring you far better leads?

This is not for ecommerce websites, or necessarily well developed websites for retailers. It's for brick and mortar retailers to reach their established customers. Most of these independent retailers don't even put pricing online. Those customers will be within a 60 mile radius of the retail location, typically in areas with a low population density. It has taken me seven years to convince these retailers that the RIO of email marketing makes it worthwhile. Some do PPC, but most will not.

If they are local and independent, one avenue could be Facebook marketing. You could set up a site, and get coverage that way. You could interlink their Facebook pages too. They could let you know what they need posting each week (or so). To my mind, this is a kind of half-way house to having your own website. Nor do you need do much save post something relatively interesting each week.

    Might this be any good?

I know of several local businesses in Utrecht who use Facebook very effectively in their locality.

It's in Dutch, you should get the idea. They have advertised for staff through Facebook too (with success, too).

    Does this help?

Many of the retailers I work with do Facebook. Some do it well, some don't. That was not the question I posted. My question is on a very specific topic that I am looking for advice on. Does anyone have a comment relevant to the question I posted?

Using an email append service is the best way to build your customer email list. Many of the nation's largest retailers use email appending very effectively to reach their existing customer base and many smaller businesses are now realizing the advantages of this type of service. The key to email appending is to work with a reputable company that can guarantee the results and the deliverability of the email addresses provided. If you would like to discuss email appending further please feel free to give me a call at (617) 965-4500 ext. 219.
