How Do I Get My Business Name Known By Customers?

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I am a photographer in a city where my business choice is in abundance. How do I stand out from the other photographers in my area and gain more customers. I have a website. I also have a facebook page and I advertise and leave business cards with those that I meet in places. Any advise. This is my website. www.deefeuryphotography.com

How have your current customers found you? What have you tried so far? What works best?

The way to begin this process isn't so much by distributing business cards and building a website (though you certainly need both of those), but by delivering great work and showing it to your target audience so they say, "That's what I want for me!"

If you want to photograph more weddings, create a portfolio of the great wedding shots you've taken, and work with wedding planners and venues to see if they would present or introduce you to clients of theirs (or at least put you on a short list of candidates). Try a geo-targeted Adwords campaign just in your local area. (You only pay for clicks to your landing page.) Create a special landing page just for weddings, so it's clear to your site visitors that you're responding to their needs -- not sending them to a generic photographer's homepage.

Once you've mastered that, you can do the same thing for other events or opportunities.

Further to Mr Goodman when he says "How have your current customers found you?" - do you know what search queries they are using? why are they choosing you and not the opposition?

Standing out in the crowd isn't actually anything of the sort - you only stand out for those who you stand out for. You offer them the perfect service, and it is this that stands out. To everyone else you're part of the crowd.

If you see what I mean?

I need to know what your customers find special. If you don't know, just send an email around with an open style question like "What do you like about me and my service" and you will find one or two things running right through them all. THIS is your uniqueness in their eyes. Knowing this you can use the display network, PPC - you name it. It will all work 5-10x better. Just because you asked your customers!

It is this that is the key to your problem.

You need to walk before you can run. As a photographer, you care a lot about appearance. Therefore, make your website gorgeous, so prospective customers can immediately sense your aesthetic (and don't use a free website maker such as Webs.com - it negates the image you're trying to craft). Also - make it blindingly obvious where you're located and who you serve. Fix any typos on your site (such as: ...your wedding date nuimber...), since that shows an inattention to details as well.

Then, build up relationships one-on-one in your community. Your church, community center, school, clubs, etc. Be willing (at least, at first) to be able to help out "in a pinch" in case someone doesn't show for a photo shoot - you're make a lot of people able to rest easier knowing one more details is nailed down.

You can increase pagerank or your website known to customers by article or blog submission, social media, affiliate marketing,SEO methods etc.I insist that SEO is the best and steady way to improve a site's page rank.I suggest you to use the SEV(Search Engine Visibility) from https://www.thewebpole.com/ as they provide keyword and suggested topics, submit the site to over 100 search engines and also provide reports which will eventually improve your website traffic. In short SEO is the best way to promote site and gain your desired web presence.

@Flaming bird - will this bring you good quality leads, or just a jumble of unfocussed traffic? It sounds very spammy to me.
