Constant Contact

Posted by eager.to.learn on 125 Points
My new marketing VP would like to switch to Constant Contact for our email campaigns. We currently have a list of about 70,000 subscribers. I send 60ish targeted and mass campaigns each month. I am happy with our current email program, which integrates with our CRM and tracks patron responses in their accounts and also tracks revenue. It has Google Analytics integration, which I don't think Constant Contact offers (without URL builder...).

I've used Constant Contact in the past and have mixed feelings. If you are familiar with Constant Contact, could you please share the pros and cons and your opinion on the program and this situation in general? Thank you!

Why does your VP want to switch? What CRM do you use?

In my experience Constant Contact is mostly used by very small companies, does not sync with a CRM system, and does not have good segmenting tools. So if you segment your list (like a good marketer) I think it will be really hard to do this using your CRM and Constant Contact.

Remember what I said about who'd be pointing his finger at whom when this all goes south? The same thinking applies here.

    Your VP is wrong.

If the system you're using now is working there is NO reason to change it. I strongly suggest the VP offer solid proof that his thinking is sound. As I said yesterday, for him to simply say "it worked" means precisely dick (and yes, you read that right). Where's his PROOF? Let's see him back up his claim with solid numbers.

Constant Contact is a fine platform. But ... not for your needs. Stick with what you know works.
