Non-profit Fundraising Dinner/auction

Posted by sylvie.andrews on 250 Points
We are a holding a dinner/auction to raise funds for a non profit organization to promote awareness of the arts in Southeast Texas. We have been focusing on after school workshops and theater but would also like to expand into community opportunities.

We would like to stay with a country/chic theme for the event. We need an event name that will create excitement, encourage attendance and participation in the dinner and auction. Any other suggestions for events held during the event would be very helpful. We are a very new organization, 2 years old, and would appreciate your help.

What's the name of your organization?
As a new organization, how are you currently perceived (if at all)?
Who specifically is likely to attend your event (and why - instead of simply donating funds to you)?
As for "creating excitement" - you need to have exciting events happening live. For example - people who specialize in quick oil paintings, interpretive dancers serving the food, an orchestra made of food instruments, wine making, outdoor roast, large scale art installation created by the attendees, etc.

    We are called Arts Fulshear.

Arts Fulshear is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation formed in 2011 with the purpose of developing, expanding, and promoting community interest in the visual and performing arts.

    Mission
Arts Fulshear will reach out to this and neighboring communities to offer instruction, classes, and performances that provide enriching cultural experiences for the Fort Bend County area. We will strive to develop strong arts and cultural values that will promote an economic educational environment.

Fulshear is a Houston suburb surrounded by ranchers and farmers, the median income is 150,000 and we would love to tap into some of it. This is only our second annual dinner/auction and our target is to raise 50,000.

I will give a few ideas in a moment - however I strongly advise you to be very careful with "We need an event name that will create excitement, encourage attendance and participation in the dinner and auction. " - when you choose a name ensure that what your potential customers see is what they will get.

Another issue is what made the dinner a success last time? What was the character of this success that can be tapped into for fresh/better/more engaging ideas?

Down to business - these will be a little bland. Feel free to sharpen any dull edges.

Does Fort Bend have any well known pathways or entry points that could be used in a tagline to suggest beginnings or continuing education?

All the best in bringing art to the young.

One thought for you - there are many who have no confidence in their artistic abilities. One great way to get past this is to do a ten-minute exercise each morning (I did this in schools) - the results weren't that good. They did get better, the kids found their style. Some found they were good at it, some struggled. It didn't matter. Art is for doing, enjoying and getting wrong.

Because at the end of term we had piles and piles of paintings and drawings. Every child could find one painting they could be PROUD OF. Even if it was only one, they had one. And that went for every child in the class. The effect was truly magical.

Bring that magic to them. Wishing you the best.
