Help Coming Up With Aname For A Bakery Business

Posted by misnic626 on 250 Points
Hello all!

I need help coming up with a name for the bakery business I am trying to build up. I am currently just baking for friends and family and I want to branch out to the internet then hopefully a retail shop later in the future. I currently provide cupcakes, cookies, pies, and cakes but later I do want to start getting into different types of breads. Also, once I end up opening a retail shop I really want to incorporate many different types of milk (including lactose free). My original idea was Milk Bar or Milk Bar Bakery, but I have been getting mixed reviews from friends and family about those names and the .com is not available. I think it is really important to have an original and memorable name so I am asking you all for a little help ! =) I am currently located in Southern California and the "style" of my desserts is simple yet beautiful. Thank you for your time and your help!

Thank you,
Nicole

Nicole - when you say "My original idea was Milk Bar or Milk Bar Bakery, but I have been getting mixed reviews from friends and family about those names and the .com is not available." - at least you had the courage to seek answers! Believe me, you'd be surprised how many businesses fail because they don't do this.

What you could do is just ask people in the street what they think (just pose as some marketing junkie with a clipboard !! ). Think of where you'd like to set up shop and just ask them what they think and do they have any better ideas? At least you'll get a feel for what they're like, who they are and what they want. An hour spent at different times of day will yield you results that will inspire you.

By the way, milkiebarbakery.com is available ;-) If you want to use that sort of name, often a spelling mistake is the key to getting your desired domain name (and it can get the creative juices flowing too!).

Does this help? What suggestions did you get from your friends? I'm happy to come up with different ideas, but they do need to focus on your customers. After all, they're buying ;-) ;-) ;-)

More important than the name are your marketing and business plans. How are people going to learn you exist? Who is your primary target audience? Where are they buying baked goods today? What's going to get them to try your baked goods instead? The name is important, but not as important as your marketing plan.
