Tagline And Domain Name Real Estate Agent - Urgent! Thanks In Advance!

Posted by k.thompson on 500 Points
I will be working for Resort Quest Real Estate Sales Division. They specialize in resort properties (condos) but also want to break in to the higher end area home and land market for some diversity. (Have 1 bad hurricane and you find yourself shut down a long time if you only sell resort properties.)
Their domain name is resortquestgulfcoast.com and they are using "Own where your heart is" (I actually like that.). I will be a sales associate selling predominantly in Gulf Shores, AL, Orange Beach, AL, Perdido Key (office is in Perdido Key), FL, Pensacola, and Pensacola Beach. Resort Quest covers more area than that, but they have other offices that would handle those areas. I'm newly licensed so I can't tout a lot of experience. I'm well known in the Perdido community for my focus and drive and for getting things done - determination and for just knowing everyone/being connected. I need a tagline for business cards to billboards and a domain name. Most agents in the office capitalize only on Perdido Key aka Perdido, since that is where they get the majority of their sales and they buy google ad words that go with Perdido. Other sales agents have PerdidoPete.com PerdidoGirl.com and PeaceofPerdido.com. I feel sure most of my business will be in Perdido as well. I am looking for ideas that may include Perdido or Gulf Coast or something else that works. To be more general I've thought of "Pick Your Paradise" which could be any of the communities I serve as well as a dream home or waterfront property. Doesn't exactly tell them to choose me to help them though. My first name is Kelley, last name is Thompson. Not sure there is anything much to do with that name. Here are some other suggestions I've thought of, found elsewhere in old forums or solicited:
Making Dreams become Your Home
Purveyor of Paradise. Live the dream.
Bringing you home to paradise.
Life is better here.
Enjoy living the lifestyle
Selling Smart
Beaches to Barns – Pick your Paradise
Someday is Today. Let’s make it happen.
Your real estate partner for an exceptional experience
Superior Real Estate. Superior Service. (Superior Attention) (Personal Attention)
Personal Attention in Paradise
The best move you will make
Pick your Paradise
Gulf Coast Goddess
Beaches to Barns, Pick your Paradise
Life is Beautiful here
Love your Life Here
Live your dream here
Together we will pick your paradise
I need help finding one that sells me along with the area for buyers and one that sells me for sellers. It's hard to find one that markets to both buyers and sellers.
I start soon and would like to get things printed with the right tagline and domain name asap. Your help is very much appreciated!
Please ask me any question that will help you help me.

Here are some currently available domains to play with: KelleyKnowsPerdido.com, PerdidoIsCalling.com, PerdidoCalls.com, and LovePerdido.com

As far as taglines, since the company you work for (Resort Quest Real Estate) doesn't say what you specialize in (or where), your tagline needs to make it clear. For example: "Perdido Paradise Awaits".

Also - why would someone want to hire YOU to help them with their transaction? What knowledge/skills do you have that others in your company (and competition) doesn't have? And how would that matter tangibly to your prospective customers?
  • Posted by k.thompson on Author

Thanks Jay! I'll try to answer your questions:

    1. Also - why would someone want to hire YOU to help them with their transaction? If a person is from this area they know my name and reputation as a person who works hard for the community and does a lot to support good causes and charitable organizations. I've developed an extensive network in the area. I'm known for being "like a dog with a bone" once I get my sights set on something. I'm incredibly focused on the tasks/jobs I take on. Obviously, other than the buying and selling of my own homes and a little real estate investing I'm not an experienced real estate agent.

    2. What knowledge/skills do you have that others in your company (and competition) doesn't have? And how would that matter tangibly to your prospective customers? I think we all have access to the latest in technology. Few use it. I'm already using it. We all know what we should do after the sale, but very few actually do it to maintain the relationship. I will. I've had to do that, foster and maintain relationships in many other situations. The business really is more about people than homes. It's about relationships. I've got a database people would kill for. It's been an honor for me to have that recognized as I've been recruited by agencies that don't recruit. I've been told no one wants me to work for the other guy because they know, with my good reputation and large network of people in the community, I'm going to succeed. (I'm on many esteemed boards of directors, etc...) I know the area. Love it, like many others do. From an actual real estate sales experience standpoint I fall short. I'm simply new to it. It's something I've always wanted to do. I got my license right out of college (I'm 43) and I'm just now able to use it because I already had a great, secure career that allowed me to retire from it relatively young. I can see how I could be a hard sell where experience is concerned. I've got to find a way to get my name out there associated with selling and buying real estate and Resort Quest.

I know that may not have helped too much. If you want any more answers please just ask. I appreciate your helping me figure this out more than you know.

    Thanks!
    Kelley

Kelley, like me you're in your prime - my point is that you know not just what you do, but how you do it. I'd like to ask what people have said about you that makes the service you provide rather more special than the ordinary. This is beyond the "dog with a bone" determination - it's more like the way I write which has its own quirks (and faults!). Not everyone likes it, but those who do like it a lot.

It's also got me into hot water with the moderator - but she only sees my dark side.

my point in saying this is that you will have a way of doing things that in a business like Estate agenting will have a very real meaning to your customers. That you've fostered relationships points to this being a strong element in your character.

What are your thoughts on this? My point is to focus on this element of your strengths as it's not something anyone else can pinch from you. It will have something to do with your determination, but will add a little "gloss".

Apols if I don't get back, I'm in Naumburg an der Saale for the next week (do I hear gasps of relief!?)

    Moriaty,

Thank you for your reply! I'd like to try and answer your question.

"I'd like to ask what people have said about you that makes the service you provide rather more special than the ordinary." - That's a little tough because it's not as if people are often coming up to me telling me what a wonderful person I am to take on this charity fundraiser or the responsibility of that government appointment. I have been told I could "sell ice to an Eskimo" (I'm just not afraid to ask for $ for a good cause), that people respond well to me, that I should run for political office (no), that everyone knows who I am, knows my name (in a mostly good way, but you know there are surely some who feel differently, that comes with a strong personality, people either really like you or they really don't), I was recently told by a business owner that wanted me to go to work for him that I was the person people in Perdido go to when they want to get something done. There was no particular personality trait mentioned - just that I am tenacious and accomplish goals others are afraid to go for. Another that knows I am going in to real estate tells me I'm being given the abnormally good offers I've been given because no one wants me working for the other guy or, maybe worse, bringing in a new office into the area, which I was approached about doing. I think I have public trust that if I take something on I will give it my all. How to capitalize on that in a tagline...I'm lost, so I turned to you.
Creating relationships one sale at a time? friendships?
Making new friends one dream at a time?
I like how you mentioned "glossing up" the dog with a bone metaphor. Any ideas?
Your dream (home). My (personal? drive and) attention. Success.

When you want your home sold, you want Kelley.
Kelley Thompson - Selling fine homes for families like yours, for fine people

I'm not great at this....which is why I am here. Any more questions or suggestions? I do appreciate all of your help and the direction you give me.

    Thanks!
    Kelley

LOL - I can't believe I'm making suggestions to myself. Really, you must see how badly I need help at this.

    Thanks!

    Der Kelley,

Ideally, your tag line needs to position you as the person who is head and shoulders above ever other real estate agent in the area you cover.

To do this ... to pull it off, you need an OUTRAGEOUS idea.

What follows is NOT, in any way meant to be offensive or degrading.

I'd recommend the same idea to ANY real estate person wanting to make a major impact on what may be a modest budget.

If you're going to use billboards, rather than going with the same old, lame-assed ideas that every other agent rolls out, consult all local ordinances and bylaws, THEN, work with a photographer, and, if you've got the stones for this, consider positioning yourself as the topless real estate agent, or as the naked real estate agent.

    Here's why.

Shock and awe strategies that are well thought out and that are planned strategically gain massive PR and media exposure—making every dollar you invest work 100 times harder.

Your marketing needs to get your face on every regional TV station, on the front page of every newspaper, and across the pages of every glossy magazine in the region ... showing you as being EVERYWHERE.

You'd only need gentle allusion of nudity of toplessness and you could, if you go down this road,
use SOLD, and for sale signs to remain decent ... BUT, here's the thing, the "naked" aspect is the VISUAL hook, while its greater context is that in regional real estate, that Kelley Thompson AND ONLY Kelley Thompson gives people the naked, honest to goodness, no BS truth about how to sell their homes (through pricing, staging, and the investment of curb appeal) in THIS REGION, in THIS MARKET, and in order to attract THIS CALIBER of buyer (ideally, CASH buyers).

I seriously doubt anyone else in your region is doing ANYTHING like this, but, your positioning statement or tag line could then be "The Naked Truth About How To Sell Your House In 30 Days, Guaranteed!"

    —OR—

Become known for giving away a car if a client's house does not sell in 30 days (you'd take out insurance to cover this in the event that you cannot deliver) ... BUT, even then, you use promotional photographs from handing over the keys to prove you keep your word.

... apologies. It's late. I'm tired. That ought to have started out "Dear Kelley"
  • Posted by k.thompson on Author
I get the point of the "naked" strategies and a younger woman with less of a public image and without children who would be horrified to see such ads and teased because of them, might well go that route. It's against the law in FL to offer anything in a lottery sort of way, like the 1 of the first 5 to buy a home from me will win a pool. I'll check and see if I can offer anything of great value to every single person who lists a house with me. Maybe that is permissible. I know I have seen advertisements that promote being paid $500 if that property manager can't rent your house in 30 days.

    Thank you for your input.

    Kelley,

there's nothing to stop you offering a guarantee - that could not be construed as a lottery. It's an insurance as it were, and Florida can't outlaw that ...

and thankyou for your long and frank response. Whilst it didn't contain the gem I was looking for, your tenacity does come across. Believe me, this kind of thing takes a huge amount of effort - and tenacity! You's gotta keep at it. People will remind you of it, and once they've done it enough, there it is. What's more, it was there all along. I'm going to run with the tenacity ...

"You want your house sold, ask Kelley" - that sort of thing.

I do like the snappiness of

"Get Kelley. Get Listed. Get Sold.
Your dream. My Aim. Bull's eye! "

... and you say you're no good at this!

(I know why you're feeling this - and I've been through it myself. I still am, in fact. It has to be genuine and it's the darndest thing to see! When I'm clear about my tagline, the English tell me I'm being pompous - well, I'm supposed to be a housewife*, right? - and when it's ordinary people yawn. You just can't win!).

*I wouldn't mind, only Brian didn't want to know which is why I'm off to Germany on my ownsome. That's in 20 mins, and it's not like going to Miami (which is probably a greater distance) but it's a different culture and language ... thankfully one I speak. Another 150kms and they speak Czech and Polish too - that's where a smile works for me coz my Polish is rusty.

And a thankyou to Gary too for his up front and insightful comments. I'm glad he's around to hand the reigns to.

A final apology for not coming up with anything more useful. I hope my input helped, and I trust Gary to pull ideas apart and help you to put them together in a different shape.

Hmm. OK. Apologies if my earlier suggestions fall short. I accept 1005 your point about family and children. That was short sighted of me: again, my apologies.

Might there be milage in offering a huge and audacious guarantee (and Moriarty is correct: there ought to be little about a guarantee that couldn't be pushed beyond what's being offered by your competition).

  • Posted by k.thompson on Author
Thanks Moriarty (enjoy your trip to Germany) and Jay for your input. I appreciate it!

Any others think of anything new or read anything in this thread that you like?
  • Posted by k.thompson on Author
    Gary,

I'll check in to the give away idea with an insurance company and see the viability of that. We'll see Monday! Thank you for the idea. I appreciate it!

Anyone else think of anything new or like something you've read in this thread?

Keep them coming! I appreciate your help.

Anyone else have any tagline or domain name ideas, Please?
  • Posted by k.thompson on Author
Anyone? Domain name or tagline ideas? I know posting the question on a Friday was probably not the best timing.

    Thanks,
    Kelley

Kelley - you're asking for more ideas, but have provided no feedback about the suggestions you've received. That means we're all guessing blind. No doubt we can generate lots of ideas, but without firm parameters/guidance, it's likely to be unproductive for everyone.
  • Posted by k.thompson on Author
    Ok. Suggestions so far:
KelleyKnowsPerdido.com, PerdidoIsCalling.com, PerdidoCalls.com, and LovePerdido.com (I like these, but I wonder if they need to more directly address what I am doing. You tell me. I don't know.)
As far as taglines, since the company you work for (Resort Quest Real Estate) doesn't say what you specialize in (or where), your tagline needs to make it clear. For example: "Perdido Paradise Awaits".
"You want your house sold, ask Kelley" - that sort of thing. - This says what I do. I like that type thing.

The outrageous naked idea - not for me
The giveaway idea - I'll check in to this, but I'm not overly excited about it yet.
"Get Kelley. Get Listed. Get Sold. - I thought of this tagline and someone liked it.
Your dream. My Aim. Bull's eye! " - Same for this one.
Connected To The Best of Perdido - Pretty general. Would like more
Kelley Thompson is at the Key of your Dreams. - Doing what?
Lose your heart to Perdido Key
Unlock your dreams with Perdido Key
Pedido Key - unlock the Gulf Coast - Maybe something like this where the Key is concerned, I just hesitate to be known for ONLY Perdido Key.
    Paradise Beckons
Make sweet music in the Perdido Key
Don't lose a second. Home in on Perdido Key with Kelley Thompson.
    Life's sweeter in Pensacola

I am immensely tied in to the Perdido Key area and I know the majority of my sales will probably be in and around there and my office is there, but I'll also have the Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, AL market as well as Pensacola, Naval Air Station Pensacola area and Pensacola Beach. Since I'll have that whole market should I be less Perdido Key specific? That's a lot of AL/FL gulf coast beach communities. Should I have a domain for each one that all feed into the same website? Ex. Kelley ThompsonSellsPerdidoKey.com, Kelley ThompsonSellsPensacola.com, KelleyThompsonSellsOrangeBeach, (I just read an article that said I needed my name in the domain name, etc... or should I go in another direction?

Sorry I am not being more help. I hope that may have given some reasons why I have not jumped on any one tagline or domain name yet.

I really want to let you know how much I appreciate your help. I need it! I start Monday and have to order business cards that day and I'd like to get my website up and going asap.

    Thanks again!
    Kelley

For the domain name go simple. Since you're basically selling, yourself include your name.

    KelleyThompsonHomes.com
    KelleyThompsonReality.com
    KelleyThompsonRealEstate.com

Add the geographic area in the tag-line. Business cards are cheap. You can have a separate card for each area, or separate landing pages for each area on your website. You can even rotate taglines, or try different taglines on Google ads and see which generates the most business. Unlike domain names you can change taglines.
