Look For A Tagline For A Brand

Posted by invinciblebaby on 125 Points
I'm looking for a better tagline for my Music Artist Brand. It currently is "Tanner Fresh: Where Clever Wordplay Meets Electro Hipster Hop." I make hip hop music with a mainstream sound. Throw some ideas at me guys. I'm not sure if it would be better to go with something describing Tanner Fresh as a person or more based around the type of music I make.

Thanks in Advance guys.

Does a musician need a tagline? Doesn't that come from the music, the lyrics, your personality?

If you've got a fan base, ask them for ideas. After all, you want more people who like you to be able to find you. I'm not sure how "Where Clever Wordplay Meets Electro Hipster Hop" resonates for them - or if people are searching for those words in looking for new artists.

So let's define what we want the tagline to do. Who is your target audience? Where are they likely to see/hear the tagline? What do you want them to do/think when they do see (or hear) it?

Well the biggest thing was I didn't like Hipster because I'm not a Hipster. My target audience is more the 14-25 year old male young adult male and females. I'm wanting to target the young wild and free lifestyle, drink beer smoke weed and have fun. I'd say I'm similar to Mac Miller in style and sound. I make hip hop, but hip hop has high competition with search engines. (I use a words to check competition for the words I use)

I want my target audience to ultimately relate to my tagline which means they relate to me and then follow me, buy my merch and music.

Looking at the logo/tagline on your website, I'd say the tagline is all but invisible, so it really doesn't communicate anything right now. Even if you changed "Hipster Hop" to "Hip Hop" it would be invisible unless you do something to increase the prominence.

My suspicion is that your target audience won't be influenced all that much by a tagline anyway. They will either appreciate your music or not.

If you're determined to keep a tagline, you might consider using the adjective "unique" instead of "Where." "Where" suggests that Tanner Fresh is a place, not a person.

I should have warned you I flunked the telepathy class...

What is it you want to say? What is your message? What's your attitude? It all feels a bit contrived worrying about keywords and merch (it reminded me of this: https://youtu.be/ON-7v4qnHP8)
