I have been given an assignment in which i have to answer the following question:
"Critically discuss to what extent Porter’s Diamond is a useful concept in explaining home and host location strategies of international business"
I have no idea of how I should go about it. Is there any sort of advice anyone can offer me.

The info at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diamond_model may be helpful in talking about how it could be useful, but also some of its limitations.

Keep in mind that it looks at clusters of businesses in an area. So if someone is the first to do something (say the first car manufacturer in a country), there won't be a cluster of supporting businesses. But if there are already car manufacturers there, it is easier to open a new one as the various parts suppliers you may need and trained labor force would already be there.

How relevant is Porter's 23 year-old model in today's market places?

    Hey guys,
Thanks for the advice it is much appreciated. Since I have to relate it to two case studies I have decided to do a successful company such as Ikea which is successful in both home and host countries and then a company which has been successful in the home location but not the host, whilst using porters forces to determine where it went right/wrong.
Do you think this would be a good approach in answering the question?
