Finding The Right Job Title

Posted by ebompard on 250 Points
Hello everybody,

We are currently opening new positions in our marketing department and I'd like to have your inputs on the best job title.

In french, we would call it "Chef de marché" which literally means "market manager". As we operate worldwide, I'm looking for the best fit with the job description, in order for our interlocutors to understand what we'll do.

We work in B2B, within the electricity industry.

This position is in the marketing department, each market having its "chef de marché". They are responsible for analysing and defininf the global strategy on their market, and are the referrent within the company. Main taks are:

- understanding the market (practices, players, trends, etc.)
- finding links between the company's products and the market needs
- participate to the product strategy by sharing market needs to the product manager (who will then drive the R&D)
- help sales by providing sales tools, case studies, market data, etc.
- defining marketing plan on its market
- marketing analysis and competitive analysis
- representing the company at specific industry events

So far, I have found titles such as "Market manager" / "Marketing development leader", but I am not convinced. Often, job description for "Product marketing manager" are a good fit, but it doesnt work in this case: in our company the product manager are more oriented towards internal processes whereas "chef de marché" are oriented towards the market.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Eric

Marketing Manager or Product Marketing Manager or <name of market> Marketing Manager

In general, there is a lot of variation on what each title means. But usually I have seen Product Marketing Manager's job to be more like a Marketing Manager's job than like a product Manager's job. PMM and MM are outward facing, where PM is more inward facing (as you say you do).
