Our current tagline is "DC's only nonprofit film center", which though descriptive, is quite boring.
Here is our press release boilerplate to give some context:
The oldest operating movie house in the area, The Avalon Theatre has been a cornerstone of northwest Washington, DC since the its opening in 1923. After the theater was abruptly closed in 2001, a community group formed the nonprofit Avalon Theatre Project, with the mission to reopen the Avalon. An amazing grassroots effort resulted in the successful restoration of the historic theater, which reopened in April 2003. The Avalon now offers exciting and diverse programming, including first-run studio films, independent & foreign films, film festivals, a weekly Wednesday night series, and special programs for families and seniors.
We did a survey recently and found that the top reasons people attend the theater are "to support my local neighborhood theater" and "the selection of films" so I am trying to work with that - something combining the cozy local neighborhood aspect of the theater with the expansive, intelligent film programming that we offer. Our audience tends to be older (50+), so our programming is sophisticated but not edgy.
Thanks for any suggestions!
