Where? Who is the primary target audience (in addition to "young women")? Which young women? Who else? Donors? What is your core benefit promise?

We understand what YOU want to do. The question is how your target audience will be better off. What's in it for THEM? What important problem will you solve?

Location: Metro Atlanta, hopefully spreading to other urban areas

Primary Target Audience: Young women between the ages of 13-21 facing depression, anxiety, weight management problems, and/or lack of self-esteem

Through providing counseling, fitness classes, group discussions and facilitating an environment that fosters self-love, self-understanding, and self-respect, we hope to help young women achieve a sustainable balance in their mental, physical and emotional health.

This sounds like you are offering help, not a solution to an important problem. Further, it isn't clear what your target audience can expect from you (other than "help") in terms of a real and meaningful benefit.

Does this target audience typically recognize that they have a problem? What would appeal to them in terms of how their lives would be different after you "help" them? What would they say they want if we were to ask them one-on-one about their lives and aspirations? Would they say they really want "help?" Would they say they want "sustainable balance in their mental, physical and emotional health?"

We (and you) need to understand not only the needs they have and the things they want, but also the words they use to express those thoughts. That's how we come up with a great name for your organization.

Have you interviewed a dozen of the folks in your target audience? If not, I'd urge that you do so. Ask open-end questions and listen carefully to their answers. Take detailed notes, even recording the words and phrases they use. Let them talk to you about their aspirations and their fears.

After you have a dozen of these interviews under your belt you'll have some great naming ideas -- and the basis for your operating plans as an organization.

The whole idea is to focus on what THEY want and need, not on what YOU want to do.
