Naming Post-secondary Consulting Business

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
I began a post-secondary consulting business that is growing and I need an appropriate name for it. I provide consulting in the areas of 1) institutional effectiveness, 2) assessment and evaluation, 3) program prioritization, 4) regional and professional accreditation, and 5) employee retention.

I have really struggled to find a name that suits the services I offer and is "smart" and sophisticated enough (i.e., it communicates effectively to high-level college and university administrators).

Your ideas will be very much appreciated!

Instead of trying to communicate what you DO, turn the telescope around and think about the BENEFIT your clients can expect when they hire you. How will THEIR lives be better? Why will THEY sleep better at night because you are on the case?

I'd look for a name (and perhaps a tagline) that makes it clear who your target audience is and what benefit they can expect from your services. How you deliver that benefit can be the subject of your first face-to-face meeting with them.

If you have not conducted informational interviews with people in your primary target audience, I'd also recommend that. See what's on their minds and what words they use when they express their feelings and ideas about them. Take detailed notes. If you do this right -- no selling or "leading the witness" -- your notes will lead you to some great naming ideas. I'd suggest 6-8 of these interviews for starters.
