Where Do I Purchase Good Contact Databases?

Posted by antonia.edwards on 25 Points
Hi - I need to purchase ad hoc contact lists for some targeted email campaigns (don't want to sign up for a subscription service) do you have any suggestions? I've tried D&B but they seem to push the subscription service and we're a small company with small budgets.
Thanks!

Good is very subjective. The vast majority of purchased lists will not be good quality.

The exception being if you can buy a list for an association or magazine. These can be Ok. For example, if you sell to Building Managers, you could buy a list for the Building Owner and Manager Association (BOMA). These are usually only sold as one time use.

The best lists are ones that you make yourselves of people who have come to your web site or visited your location and signed up. They have interest in your product, so are more likely to read your ad than any purchased list.

If you just want a cheap (but keep in mind, low quality) list, type into google "mailing list vendor" and then add on some sort of specifying factor of geography, type of person you want to reach, etc. to find a list related to what you want.

Don't, just don't. Rented lists are usually scraped off the net and are filled with crap leads if you get a lead at all. If you look at most email marketing services terms of service, you'll see the practice of using a rented list is a major do not do. As has been said, the best list is a list you generate yourself. I know not what you want to hear, but not using rented lists is a best practice.
