Moving Away From Images In Emails/blog Digest?

I couldn't help noticing that the Marketing Profs Today email doesn't include images anymore.

I usually use these emails as a reference when designing my own blog digest, because I trust the research behind all the decisions there.

So, I'm wondering, is there a new data/trend related to images in emails, recipients interact better with email without images for example?

    I expected better from this knowledge exchange. It's obviously easy to post spam.
    I'm trying to close the question without awarding any points, but the email that should be used for that purpose exchange@marketingprofs.com won't even receive any emails.
