Which One E-commerce Or E-marketing?

Posted by Anonymous on 150 Points
I recently spoke to a Head of Internet Banking about my career ambitions. I mentioned I'm interested in e-commerce opportunities.I aslo mentioned my background that I'm from e-marketing strategist. Now he wants to know that I should be more specific on what I wish to do.

Do you think I should mention about my objective in terms of e-commerce or insist for e-marketing thereafter move to e-commerce.

What if there are no opp in e-marketing as he heads up the e-banking business?

Please advise...

What is your main career objective? It sounds like you want to be in the e-business field. Probaby e-business is more encompassing and could provide more alternatives latter in your career.

But given the two options I would start with what I'm best at now which is e-marketing and develop my competencies in e-commerce over time. As you may know e-commerce would fail badly without e-marketing.

I think what sammykarij was trying to say is e-marketing is implied in e-commerce.

E-marketing lays the foundation for the survival of e-commerce.

Now, the real question is; which area needs to be fulfilled by the organization? Whichever one they are stressing a need for, state your interest as such.

For example, if they say their primary focus is to obtain quality people for e-commerce duties, state you are interested in such AND be sure to constantly remind them of your e-marketing experience and offer assistance/apply for e-marketing positions as they arise....and vice versa.

If they are literally allowing you to choose which department you wish to join, simply pick the one that interests you the most and hope for the best.

    I hope this helps!
