What Are Marketing Models?

we have been given an assignment where we have to look at marketing models and relate them to a certain business...
however, i am unclear about the basic theory behind marketing models.

    models as in thin people wearing clothing on the cat walk people or as in a at set of ideas that are used to market a product?

    Though the above answers are right, in my neck of the woods (marketing academia), marketing models refer to all stylized representations of real-life markets (often in the form of mathematical equations) that help decision makers to focus on the most important factors, much like a map is a stylized representation of reality to help you find your way. An important consideration is always how much information to include: more complete models are not necessarily better as they do not help reduce information overload for the manager, hence the move towards 'marketing dashboards' that summarize how your product/brand is doing in a few (typically 3-8) metrics, and simulate/predict the impact of marketing actions. Good dashboards are driven (in the backoffice) by marketing models, who may be quite complex
