Valuable Site Content Written By Users

Posted by Anonymous on 621 Points
We want to launch a webdesign service and we need a showcase. The best site for this showcase would be one with valuable content generated by the users because copywriting/creating a large amount of content is a little difficult for us at this moment. An example of such a site is a job site, but, for job sites the market is cluttered.
Can you help me with other ideas?

You are talking about a Wiki.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page . A wiki lets anybody change the content of a site, you would think that there would be a lot of incorrect info but there is not, this is because if someone sees that there is some incorrect info they just change it.

I don't know of a jobs site that is a wiki based, but i am sure there is at least one.

    Hi Roxana,

Carl is correct, it sure sounds like a wiki-based website could be what you are looking for.

Wiki is a piece of server software that allows users to freely create and edit Web page content using any Web browser. Wiki supports hyperlinks and has a simple text syntax for creating new pages and crosslinks between internal pages on the fly.

Wiki are unique among group communication tools in that they allow the organization of contributions to be edited in addition to the content itself.

Lots of info on Google, and https://www.wiki.org/ is also a good place to start.

    I hope that helps!

    Hey Roxana,

it appears from your question that you are trying to come up with ideas of types of sites or services you can offer. Is that correct?

If that is correct let me recommend the following. I would think that any informational website would be something viewers could add to the content. Since your interest may be centered around business and reading why not begin with the areas you or your group are naturally drawn to. For instance a Book site, Business site or Sales site my be a nice place to start. Roxana are you looking for particular ideas for sites that may not be over developed areas currently saturated on the internet? I look forward to your reply so that we can offer you some legitimate advice that you can use. Thanks for your time. Is there anything else I can do for you?

I'm a little confused. Why would users give YOU valuable content for your website? What's in it for them?

Who is your target audience (for the website)? What is it you want them to DO if/when they find your website? How do you propose to get them to your website?

I guess I'm having trouble seeing the big picture -- what you're trying to accomplish. It looks like a tactic searching for a strategy. But maybe I don't understand.

Can you explain what you're trying to accomplish? What's the objective?

    Roxana,

another thing you can do is something I often practice.

SOW WHAT YOU WANT TO HARVEST...
    or
GIVE AWAY WHAT YOU WANT TO COME BACK TO YOU...

    FOR EXAMPLE...
back in the eighties one thing I use to see tobacco companies who were trying to brand a new type of cigarette do is give freebies of their new brand away. Of course if you didn't smoke you didn't take them but if you were a smoker you took a few from this person went up the street and took a few from another person giving them away.

KUDOS DID IT TOO IN THE 80's...
A few campaigns like this were successfully done on the city of Chicago streets during the eighties. That's how Kudos launched their first campaign in Shy-town and their still around doing very well. The law of reaping and sowing is an old natural law taken from farmers. Whatever you sow comes back to you increased and multiplied.

FEAR STOPS PEOPLE FROM TRYING SOMETHING NEW...
Often times people are afraid to extend themselves by giving away what they desire to come back to them. gmarchis shares a good idea and I would like to take it one step further by saying...

----Don't just "haphazardly" give away your idea----

    BE INTENTIONAL ABOUT...
who you want to host your design templates. In other words intentionally put your designs in the hands of those who would help you gain greater exposure. Giving away your template designs could gain you further exposure by putting those designs in the right place. For instance where you plant those templates can bring you greater benefits. Put a template in a virtual unknown persons website and you have not expanded your exposure by much...Plant the same template design in a very well known persons website and you have probably expanded your exposure 10, 30 or 60%.

    THINK ABOUT IT...
Shoot me an email and let's talk further. Is there anything else I can do for you?
