Master Thesis

Dear Experts

I plan to write a master thesis during the next few months. Before I hand in the proposal to my professors I would appreceate to get some feedback from you.
A friend of mine has an IT Business which focuses on hard- software and services selling. The company was founded in the golden years and is now in a critical situation. They have recently defined a vision and a strategy but are not able to realize and use it. I would like to help them. In the first part of my thesis I plan to analize the company and its invironment by using a PEST, FIVE FORCES and surveys (customers, employees) which helps me to work out a SWOT. I think after having this information I should be able to see whether the current stragey fits or not. If not my second part would be to work out a strategy. If yes the second part would be an analysis of the current processes and focus on BPR. What do you think about this approach ? Is there something I don't cover? Any comments or ideas from your experience?

Thank you in advance for your help !

Best regards,

Mike

    Mike...

I agree with the two previous postings - let me just add one further thought.

When you come to look at the strategy of the business, you must focus on the issue of segmentation - has the business previously defined what target segments of their market it was aiming at? Segmentation really lies at the heart of strategy formulation - without it, you can't really get a full understanding of your customers and their needs.

    Good luck with the thesis,
    Bob

Agree with all the foregoing regarding the software company... HOWEVER... Is this going to satisfy the requirements for the master's thesis?

Don't gloss over bilc24's warning that a more rigorous testing of some (new?) hypothesis might be the normal, accepted rout to the masters.

If in doubt, ask your thesis tutorial head/professor or course counselor.

Would be a pity to invest a month, fix your friend's business... and fail the Master's, hey?
