marketing – and I love it - at a young, dynamic, mid-sized food company with a one-man marketing department. The company is very strong in sales
and distribution but not marketing. I’ve grown the department (both staff and capabilities) and figured out a lot on my own. I’m the senior marketing manager and making a good salary, but I know that in order to continue to grow in this career, I need to obtain a more traditional marketing background. But at what level should I apply? Do I need to take 2 steps backwards first? My background is too senior for most of the entry marketing positions available at the large CPG companies, but I lack the “classical” background required by the higher level positions.
