The ability to add more best and worst ideas to site has been added. Please take a look and let me know what you think of the site. It's a work in progress so all suggestions are welcome.

Thanks to all of you who have added, and continue to add your postings. Suggestions on how to make the site better can be posted here or emailed to me at richard@freshtilledsoil.com

    hi Richard B

regarding your site, my observations are...

    A. its nicely done, specially the "Submit an Idea" page. great to see the marketingprofs.com logo and promoting the KHE.

    B. in the home page, when one clicks on Marketingprofs.com link the site opens in new window, but thats not the case when same is done in other pages (like in "View Ideas" page). you should make them same as the home page link.

    C. regarding content in the "View Ideas" page, honestly, we had posted a lot more Best & Worst Ideas here in KHE than you have posted. IMHO, you should add all experts have shared in this forum, as they are all really unique.

for example, i had posted the following earlier in response to your post on this subject.

    https://www.marketingprofs.com/ea/qst_question.asp?qstid=4493

    "Hi Richard B

well here are some of the best Marketing Campaigns i have seen in recent times in my country Bangladesh.

    1. 100% Halal Soap.

A new entrant in the beauty soap industry of Bangladesh introduced their brand "Aromatic" against the dominant LUX of Unilever with a punchline

    "Only 100% Halal Soap"

back in 1998. This was well communicated through all the media. This "Halal" concept bore into the mostly religious Muslim Bangladeshi consumers mind and saw the market share, sales, profit of Unilever Bangladesh plummeting.

    2. GP-GP (Mobile To Mobile Service)

When Grameen Phone (majority owned by Telenor of Norway), the largest cellular operator in Bangladesh, launched their service, they faced the interconnection problem to access the landlines(due to stateowned landline provider's intrancigence). It was getting difficult to sell "true mobile service-one with incoming and outgoing facility to all phones" connection.

To counter this problem, GP devised a unique product called GP-GP which is basically a mobile to mobile connection. one can have incoming and outgoing calls all mobile networks but NOT to any landphones.

THis ensured that if anyone buys a GP-GP line, to be connected with him his near dear ones have to have at least 1 more GP-GP line. this is actually fueling the growth of sales for the company.

Still today, 90% of Bangladesh's mobile users dont have access to landlines.

    3. Launching of Grameen Phone in Chittagong

When Grameen Phone, the largest cellular operator in Bangladesh, launched their service in the port city of Chittagong, they had Buntings/Streamers and Posters and all other kinds of POS at every possible space, Mobile outlets, wall etc. They decorated all the traffic round-abouts with these buntings and entirely changed the look of the city. The city walls were pasted with posters with simple message

"Grameen Phone in Now in CHittagong".

All this was done overnight and the launch day morning the entire city was surprised. Obviously the consumer reaction was complete sell out of available connections in less than 96 hours. "

besides following are some posts on this topic. you can add these on your website.

Richard, is this just a browse site, or more educational? If I have a challenge and want to review specific ideas, then here are several suggestions:

    1. Link differently. I find the full underlining (linking) of the ideas tedious and a reading strain. Find another linking method.

    2. Sort ideas. The idea list is not meaningful to me. Sort the ideas by subject area -- or add descriptive or topical titles. This could be addressed on your Submit form -- add another line called topic (advertising, direct mail, taglines, content gaffs, etc.)

    3. More depth. I must admit that some these ideas are curious. I need more info. (What's a "Tailfin" for BA? And what's the deal with the Spandex posts? Maybe it's a moderator or editing that's needed... :-) Could this also be addressed on the Submit form?

    4. The font. the main body font is not very readable, IMO. A bit elongated and tracked too tightly. I'd change it.

Overall, a very interesting site exhibiting good design.

    hi Richard B

    1. i agree with ccoldren on the links. how could i overlook that. i think it would be even better if you could made certain names into links, like BA or P&G and once one clicks on them they go straight to the website of P&G etc.

    2. one more thing, it takes time for the ideas of one to be visible (usually a day) after being submitted. can you make it like we have in KHE, instant post view-ability. i am sure Val & team in KHE will help you out in this regard.

    3. also i suggest you have a small guildeline of submitting ideas, many ideas dont have enough historical background to really understand the catch of how it became good and bad marketing idea. you can ask the submitters to give some background info on the idea.

P.S. to ccoldren, "Tailfin for BA" is the Tail Section of an aircraft of British Airways, i believe.

    hope that helps

    cheers!!

and do you have any quality check on the stories submitted? For example this story may be appocraphyl.

It's a classic story: Pepsi decides to break into the enormous Chinese market. Unfortunately, their slogan of the time - "Come Alive - You're in the Pepsi Generation!" - is translated to "Pepsi brings your ancestors back from the dead!"

I've heard it used in relation to Coca Cola, with their slogan "Coke adds life" being translated as "Coke brings you back from death".

Snopes.com also questions the story https://www.snopes.com/business/misxlate/ancestor.asp.

I think it's great that people can submit ideas, but if there's really no control on the content you'll lose credibility.
