Most business leaders say it's important for companies to establish internal guidelines regarding how to use AI responsibly, but most also say their firm does not yet have those sorts of guidelines in place, according to recent research from Conversica.

The report was based on data from a survey conducted in July 2023 among 500 business leaders (executives, senior managers, or owners).

Some 73% of respondents say it is important for their company to establish clear guidelines regarding the ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence.

How important it is for companies to establish guidelines for AI use

Only 6% of business leaders say their firm has already established guidelines regarding the ethical and responsible use of AI. Some 36% of leaders say their firm plans to establish guidelines in the next 12 months, 30% plan to establish guidelines at some point but do not have a timeline in place, and 28% have no plans to establish guidelines.

Whether companies are planning to establish guidelines for AI use

Some 36% of business leaders say their firm requires employees to follow a usage policy when using popular Al tools like ChatGPT, 20% say they are considering a usage policy, 20% say it is up to the individuals, 4% say they've banned one or more tools, 3% say they're considering banning one or more tools, and 17% are not sure about their firm's usage policy.
