Which marketing tasks do SMBs outsource most to marketing agencies? What proportion of SMBs use at least one marketing agency? How often do SMBs switch agencies?

To find out, researchers at inTandem conducted a survey in April 2025 among 500 SMB owners in the United States.

Respondents say the top services they outsource to agencies are social media management, email marketing, and paid search advertising.

Some 52% of SMB owners say they outsource at least some of their marketing, down from 70% who said so in 2023.

Some 40% of the SMBs that outsource their marketing to an agency churn, and more than half (56%) of those that churn do so within 6-12 months.

The marketing services with the highest SMB churn rates are social media management, paid search advertising, and Web development.

About the research: The report was based on data from a survey conducted in April 2025 among 500 SMB owners in the United States.
