Catchy Name For A Parking Lot Striping Company

Posted by burnberg on 500 Points
We are starting a parking lot striping business, and we will be restriping, and/or laying out new striping for parking spot designations for local businesses, tennis courts, sports fields. We had selected Finish Line Striping, but it is already taken. we need something that is clever, at the beginning of the alphabet if possible, and describes our work. Ideas have included Infinity Striping, Goal Line Striping....you get the udea. We are stumped and need something fresh!

Thanks-

If you are considering this to be a brand, you can definitely go with 1-866-Striping, that will give you the power to franchise out long term. Although the 1800 number is taken, your business will be better.
If you are planning on just staying relatively close to your area, (your area) Striping will allow your customer to be branded to your business via your location.

Is, or could, a website be important for your marketing? Could you expand to other cities? If the answer to either of these is yes, than I submit my standard naming suggestion here.

Go to the Google Keyword tool and see what search terms are being used most often for parking lot striping. Let us say you are in LA and a search term used a lot were "paint parking lot, LA" and "LA goal line painting." Register the associated domain names.

That is the computer/Internet/SEO friendly part of your name. Now you need to add a human friendly part to it, some humor or charm. I liked the suggestion Zebra. (If Apple worked for computers, Zebras can for painting.) The domain name stays the same; you just want to make the name catchier, easier to remember. The above is the long approach, which can work, and has the advantage of being easier to implement than the compact approach.

The compact approach is to take a powerful word (or short phrase) and use it to establish a memorable brand, such as naming a computer company after a fruit or vegetable -- Apple. Easier said than done.

Lastly, being the AAAAA painting company made sense when the key advertising medium was the Yellow Pages, but that is unlikely to be true nowadays anyplace where computers are common.

    Regards,
    JH

Clever and beginning-of-the-alphabet shouldn't be the goals. Clever often gets in the way of clear benefit communication (i.e., people remember the "clever" and miss the real reason to call you), and "beginning-of-the-alphabet" is rooted in the old dead-trees telephone directory -- now almost obsolete.

So let's start with identification of your primary target audience. Who are they? Where do they live? How do they typically find people to stripe whatever they have that needs striping? What is the most important criterion when they select a striper?

Then lets figure out what makes you different from, and better than, your competitors. Why should someone choose YOU? What's in it for them that sets you apart from others?

Then we need to know how you expect people to find you, regardless of what the name is. Will they mostly find it from online search? From referrals? From traditional advertising? Signage? (Do you have a marketing plan? If so, it would really help to know the basic elements of that plan. If not, that should probably come before the naming process.)

We're very good at naming, but we need more information before we can "work our magic." Answer these questions and we'll do a great job for you.

Re - "We had selected Finish Line Striping, but it is already taken"

What do you mean by "already taken", as in a trademark name, state corporate name, domain name???

startlinestriping.com is available if you are looking to have an online presence.

I'm assuming you want something at the beginning of the alphabet because your research shows that most people choose a company by looking thru the yellow pages. If that's the primary reason, definitely go with AAAA Striping. Above that would be numerals as darylb mentioned.

Your marketing campaign, though, needs to separate you from the pack.

Sorry not to get back to you sooner, family emergency.

This response is for MGoodman and others: You're right about trying to be at the beginning of the alphabet. Old habits die hard and I should have known better.

Target audience is basically anyone who needs a lot marked off. My initial target market will be lots that need restriping. They're fairly easy and allows one to complete more jobs faster to build a portfolio. Customers needing striping may look on the internet or ask another business for a referral. Initially, I will be working in a small Rocky Mtn community that, at this time, does not have another striping company. Business owners must find striping companies from larger cities approximately 50 to 60 miles away. Providing quality work at reasonable prices should help me build a good reputation locally and perhaps allow me to expand to the larger communities.

Many customers will want a combination of a decent price and quality work. Most companies have a pretty high mark up so I should be able to compete.

Getting the name out for a new business is always a challenge. Getting the local paper to do a short article always helps. I plan to do some traditional advertising in the local paper, joining the local chamber and basically getting out and talking to business owners.

Your company uniform (and perhaps logo) might be a ref wearing his stripes.
