    madamdick,

It sounds like you're looking for us to offer you a niche recommendation...is that the case?

    FOLLOW EDISON'S FOOT STEPS...
As a personal recommendation follow Thomas Edison a great inventor and creators suggestions. Edison believed in creating what people needed and could use.

DON'T BE A TREND SETTER "MEET PEOPLES NEEDS"
Now a days in the fashion industry you do not have to be a trend setter as much as you need to be sensitive to what the needs and interest of people are.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO MAKE FOR MEN?
In our society there are many areas and catagories. What floats your boat as it relates to fashion designing? Are you interested in designing coats, casual wear, underwear, sports attire or some other specific clothing need like shoes?

TELL ME WHAT YOU LIKE I'LL TELL YOU THE NICHE...
I feel you should tell me what you love to design and based on that I will recommend what niche you ought to develop.

DESIGN WHAT YOU LOVE AND "THE NICHE" WILL FOLLOW...
Whatever you do CREATE WHAT YOU LOVE rather than trying to create a niche you know you'll hate. So what do you hate? My suggestion is regardless of what I recommend don't create what you hate. Is there anything else I can do for you?

Have you done any research among your target audience to find out how they make their purchase decisions, what they like/dislike, where they shop, what they'd like that they can't find today, etc.?

If not, that's the place to start. You can begin with a small-scale qualitative study, but before you commit to a major investment, you'll undoubtedly want a projectable quantitative study.

Your positioning, marketing strategy, and business plan need to precede everything else, and you need an in-depth understanding of your target market for those key pieces of thinking.
