Website Critique For Conversion Optimization

Posted by Anonymous on 250 Points
Hello,

I am the owner of a website which sells high end luxury bedding. The URL of the site is https://www.high-thread-count-bed-sheets.com. The website has been online for about a year. It is an online retail site only-no physical store location.

I have been trying to work on my website conversion and wanted to obtain some critiques. I have been studying how to optimize my site in terms of conversion, but no changes that I make seem to have an effect one way or the other.

So far, my advertising efforts have focused primarily on Google Adwords. I am trying to determine if maybe advertising is the issue-I have heard that customers who find a website through the search engines tradtionally do not purchase higher end items, so once I am satisfied that my site is optimized for converting customers, I am considering stopping the Adwords campaigns and concentrating on offline and direct mail marketing.

In any event, thanks in advance for your input!

Your site looked good.. here are a few critiques:
    1) I am not sure about the color selection.. I would revisit it.. yours seemed subdued which may be ok, but in contrast to your competitors you may seem blasse'
    2) i didnt like the fact the pages went on and on requiring some scrolling down..
    3) I liked the news letter and the free guide offered. I would expand that portion of the site. Maybe something about the care and feeding of fine bedding.
    4) lastly, I did a couple of google searches. I never saw your site..

    Hope this helps,

    Hello,

Higher priced/luxury items are in high demand via the internet; these products are not readily available in all retail stores.

    To improve conversion-

Key word marketing is the way to drive traffic to your site and my three suggestions would be to increase your click through rate by raising your ranking, fine tuning your keywords, and comparing your site's strengths versus the #1 and #2 sites appearing as your competition.

Please complete your site comparison before investing any more marketing funds.

Your site has a lot a great points; it is all in marketing now.

    Hope this helps,

It’s difficult to properly answer your question without understanding more about your conversion rate, keywords used in AdWords, and what text you use in your AdWords etc.

If you want to improve conversion rate for AdWords used keyphrases of at least 3 words, sure you will get a lower CTR, but you should find your conversion rate improves.

If you are using an analytical tool, ensure you understand what is bringing customers to you and build upon it, is it a particular search engine, keyphrase etc

Again, it’s difficult without knowing more, but I might consider running an Affiliate program if you don’t already, that way you only pay for sales.

Finally do not ignore your organic search, it’s plays an important role when you also use PPC.

Sorry I can’t give you anymore specific advice, but like I said without knowing your AdWord conversion rate, Adword keywords/phrases and the ad copy you use … along with an understanding of what actually drives traffic to your site, I can’t help you further.

If you contact me offline with these details I will give you a free 2-3 hours of my time to better understand your problems and advice you.

    Good Morning,

My recommendation would not to eliminate your online marketing but to re-apply the funds to new keywords that are more effective.

Online marketing is a very effective tool to drive buying traffic for high end linens to your site. The key is finding good values in key words on the search engines.

One recommendation would be to bid the word "designer bed sheets" at a #1 ranking for 30 days. Currently, around 3,000 customers are searching for this word a month, and the current cpc is .61 cents. This is just one example of finding "good values" in key words that will drive sales to your store.

    Best of Luck

    hello,

I am glad to help; key word analysis is just one of my companies strength.

Ongoing effective keyword management can position your company to reach the goals you have established. The challenge is of course in interrupting the data efficiently.

    Couple of thoughts-
    1. Eliminate the general term 'bedding". This search even though it generates a lot of traffic.. the customer is not defined enough on what they are looking for in order for the bid word to be a good value for your site. Please note with a word like "bedding", a customer could be looking for bedspreads, mattresses, etc.

    2. Even though certain words bring a lot of traffic to your site, a word is not a good value unless there is an acceptable conversion rate per key word investment.

    3. Mine for new key words that will drive customers to your site that are your target customer.

    4. There is a lot of high end linens being sold on the web and your site is great.

    Best of Luck

    Sandy
